Well I'm starting to have an isue where I have troble getting my truck into revers or any forward gear unless it's moving. When I got the transmission from proformane gear in black hawk SD I always had trouble getting it in reverse, but now with 15,000 miles later if i park the truck with it in revese I cant put it in nutral without first moving backwards Any thoughts?

I don't have first hand experience with the nv4500 but I know another tdr member has been having trouble getting in and outta reverse in his new nv4500 as well. It may be something that the 2nd genners have dealt with already as well.

I would be looking around the clutch and its hyd system. It sounds like the clutch is not fully releasing.

The hyd system is the first thing I would look over real close.

Does it go through the gears easily when it's not running? If it does it is probably hydraulics if not then there are other issues most likely inside the transmission. Keep us posted.

With the engine off, clutch depressed (me too Lol) The transmission will easly go into and out of forward gears. but once i put it in reverse I can not get it back out unless I start the truck and and start moving backwards. :(

that sounds like a syncro issue if it done it from the start id call were you bought it

try changeing the oil to redline , use a combo of MT 90 and MTL

then you get whats recomended by redline check there web site

they say the exact same thing , six states the distributor for the

nv 4500 and nv 5600 dont sell castrol , they had problems and sell the red;ine

The guy I got it from is a total sh@#, there was a long story on how I got burn by Dave Lems at Proformance gear. So I doubt his year warenty would be any good unless I beat it out of him which is looking like a posibility.

I have 5 gallons of catrol syntorque (that what I was told to use) should I change it using that oil or get something else ( redline)

thanks

mike

There is probably a transmission problem. Since it only has a problem in reverse when the truck is not running that is where I would start.

Due to the fact that it also has problems shifting when running is sounds as if the clutch is not fully disengaging when it's running. This allows the trans to keep turning when you disengage the clutch - that is probably why it is hard to shift when running. This is probably hydraulics. That was a problem I had with mine. Once I replaced the clutch hydraulics my hard shifting got much better. It actually took another clutch hydraulic system from Dodge to fully solve my problem -the first new system was weak but did work.

As far as Castrol Syntorq is concerned my understanding is that it is not a full synthetic but a blended syn. Redline recommends a mix of 50% MT90 and 50% MTL for the NV4500HD. Amsoil also has a full syn GL4 that meets specs for that transmission. Pennzoil also makes a full syn GL4.

I doubt whether it is a syncro problem (why would reverse need a syncro, there is only one of them). It sounds tom like a mis-adjustment on the shifting fork and\or missing pads on the forks. I would definitly get it fixed under the warranty, if they offer one they have to honor it.

Ok, does anyone have a exploded diagram of a nv4500? Looks like I'm going to have to take care of this since Mr Lems wouln't. This shifting fork, is it what is part of the top cover?

Yes it is connected to the top cover, if you still have your old NV4500 you could just swap the top covers. It would be a good ideal to post this on the 2nd. Gen forum. There are 2 different styles of NV4500 transmissions, one has the shifter that you have push down & turn to lock in (they call it a round top), and the other (square top) has 4 bolts that are removed to pull the shifter. The square tops are the ones that you can buy & install a short throw shifter in.

Ok When I bought the Nv4500 from proformance gear, He shipped it without the squar top cover so I bought a used one and put it on. I'm wondering if it is the problem, maybe I did something wrong? I just bolted it down :(

Well I finaly had the time and motivation to change the engine oil, transmission oil, and add gear oil to the transfer case. The oils from the transmission was light brown in color and smelled like gear oil? the castrol sytourq was clear and didn't smell like gear oil when I put it in. Does this stuff change color when it gets hot?

The transmission is still very difficult to get in/out of revers or 5th unless the truck is moving. Putting fress oil in made no Change yet (only put 30 miles on it since) and it's not the clutch. anyone have ideas? or am I going to have to pull this down.

I'm starting to wish I had put a 727 in it and put a gear vendors unit on.
