Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) nv4500 ongoing problems

Please help. I have a 1998 3500. I have rebuilt the transmission ( done professionally) The factory original transmission lasted 200,000 the other two rebuilds and 3 repairs to those lasted less than 75,ooo miles does anyone know what is going wrong other than 5th gear nut keeps backing off. thanks.

It would be hard to pin point your problems without some more information. But if you want to end your problems, either get Quad 4X4 in Montana to rebuild your transmission or get what you need out of his rebuild kit, some of his tools and the fully splined main shaft and do it yourself. End of problems with 5th gear. I did mine last summer and its the best mod I've done yet. Will most likely outlast the truck and engine.

I swapped to a G56 six speed to end my NV4500 problems (5th gear, then cluster bearing).

Quad doesnt rebuild trannies anymore.

Try Standard Transmission and gear.

Just had my 4500 rebuilt at 190k by a local transmission shop. 5th and main shaft upgrade. Works great so far.

Give Alan a call at Blumenthals in OKC . Did a 4500 conversion on my '93, came out great, and just installed one of their 5600's in my '03 last week! Best the truck has shifted since way back when. Oo.

I did a Blumenthals built to the hilt NV4500 and it lasted 8 months which 3 of the months it was sitting.

Do a search on here for Blumenthals and see what problems people have had.

BTW, when I talked to them about it failing they just said oh well warranty is up. We can build you another one though.

I went with Standard Transmission and Gear this time. They have a better warranty and a nicer customer service. Stanard also said that Blumenthals uses inferior parts in their rebuilds (dont know if its true or not}

Also Blumenthals took 6 months to get me my core charge back to me.

STAY AWAY FROM BLUMENTHALS!

I got a blumenthals for over a year maybe 18 months it still works fine. Had problems with the core charge / waiting for them to pick it up. I got tired of calling them I still have the core and dont remember if they charged me for it or not but either way I got some spare parts... Money comes and money goes but the sun will still rise over the east tomorrow
