nv4500 preload specs

does anybody have the factory specs for the nv4500 bearing preload

. 002-. 006 inches endplay on both the mainshaft and countershaft.

I understand that the bearings must be pre-loaded. Ask Standard Transmission.

the nv 4500 needs endplay and yes there is a big diffrence for pre load you set the bearings a little tight and you have to use an inch pound torque wrench or sometimes a scale and you preload the bearings to a certain inch pound reading or pound pull required on like a fish scale end is measured with a dial indicator and you use shims to set the bearings so the shaft has the specified end play

If the book calls for endplay, and you preload it, it will fail too. When it gets hot and expands, it will tighten them too much and they will bind.

If you preloaded yours, I'm sure you will find this out for yourself.

I got one too tight once. Crazy temps. Had to pull it and loosen it up. I'll say it again, endplay, NOT preload.

I've taken apart high mileage transmissions and measured as much as . 040" endplay. On a fully functional transmission. To say too loose will result in failure is incorrect.

Again, can't run them loose. But you can't run them tight. I take all of the end play out and have always. It works for me, and I don't have bearing failure.

By the way, there is a document out that explains the revised bearing setting specs. Sorry I don't have one anymore.

If you can get away running the bearings loose, GO for it.

lost the the flat needle bearing the input rides on the last one i did . 002 is barley enough to let the oil between the gears ive done 4 and had good luck i tried takin the end play out didnt work for me
