Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) NV4500 Problems, questions. Joe D?

This has happened twice now. I was shifting fast and hard both times. The shifter went past 3rd gear and my hand hit the radio. When it went past 3rd gear, it found another neutral. I was able to clutch and shift right back to neutral and it went in gear and wouldnt go past the stop. Any idea on what might be wrong, or how bad of a problem it is? I assume first of all, I shouldnt shift that hard.
