Does anyone know the size of the drain plug in the nv4500? and thread count? I am trying to come up with something to hook up my temp guage (without going the fast cooler route) I dont pull heavy loads too often but I just want one anyway. So if anyone has ideas let me know.

TIA

I believe the NV4500 doesn't have a drain plug. If I remember correctly to last year when I changed fluid, I had to use the bottom bolt of the PTO cover to change the fluid.

Nope, don't remember the size, but if you look at the dealer parts book, that should state the size and pitch of the thread.

Ok drain plug was the wrong word to use. Im talking about the plugs on the passenger side of the transmission. Maybe that will clear things up a little.

The NV4500 transmission coolers come with a ready to remove plug designed for a temp probe. Check the TDR ads.

Fill plug is 3/4 national pipe thread. You can use a bushing going down to 1/8 npt and put the sender there. If you can't find a bushing, get a hollow brass hex head plug and drill and tap it.

transmission temp probe install option

If you want, you may want to try this-

Fabcraft Metal Works makes a transmission temp gauge kit. Replaces the factory P. T. O. cover. Made from CNC machined Billet aluminum. Comes with a Autometer 100-250*gauge, sender, brackets, all required hardware. The sender is screwed into the cover. I've never dealt with this company so I don't know how good their products are or what they cost.

I bushed down to use the fill plug for my sensor. Think about it, the oil is splashed against that side of the transmission while moving. It may not be as good as using the Fast Cooler port but it is quick and dirty and quite adequate IMHO. Don't know if it applies but the Mag-Hytek design places the plug out of the bath and in a position where it gets splashed.

I also use the fill plug plug for temp sender. All that is needed is to know if your trans starts running hotter than usual so if the temp at the fill plug is off by a few degrees it doesnt matter much

IT DOES HAVE A DRAIN PLUG!!

It is the bottom bolt on the PTO Housing... also a great place to mount your temp gauge... Check that out, and let me know what you think. Being the lowest bolt on the transmission, wouldn't it look like a drain plug to y'all? Just something to think about.
