Lost fifth gear for the second time in my truck. Needs a bigger clutch anyway so I will be replacing that with a southbend con ofe. The question I have is if a person can rebuild the NV4500 himself or if it needs to be rebuilt by someone else. Quad 4X4 has the kit with all tools, bearings and seals, small parts kit, fully splined mainshaft, etc. Just wondered if I by the manual and take my time if this is something I should try. The kit is only 1150. Truck has 225000 on it so I imagine it is time for a rebuild, plus I dont plan to pull it again. Any help and input would be appreciated.

I just finished putting in my reman transmission at 1 am last night and I only paid 1150 for it done by the shop. If you want I can give you the number for the place I got mine. BTW... it comes with a fully splined mainshaft on the rebuild and is rated for 500 Horsepower. Chris

PS shop is located in south central MN

yeah I would like to talk with them. Did they rebuild yours or send you one and take yours as a core? ST also has remans for 1250, but I dont know much about them.

I called them on Friday and they had one built and dyno tested for me by noon yesterday and they don't work Saturdays. I took my core to them when I picked the new one up. They don't do business with the general public unless you pay cash so I went thru my dealer and got it and they charged me for it. The number for the transmission shop is 888-824-2012 and the dealer is 800-779-0092... ask for Glen in parts and tell him you want a transmission deal like Chris Snyder got. He is super good to me and always sells parts WAY LESS than retail. transmission shop is very helpful with any questions you have and they have a GREAT reputation for good transmission's with a state of the art facility, but they have to be good to cater to Dodge dealers. Hope this helps, Chris

They aren't terribly difficult if you decide to do it yourself. You can buy a bearing, seal, syncro kit with fully splined shaft from Standard Trans for less then $600 IIRC.

Standard Transmission did mine, bearings, synchro's and fully splined main shaft for about what you are looking at for parts. Give them a call.
