Hey guys, new to the forum here. I just bought a 96 ram 3500 can't Cummins with a nv4500 in it and I'm having some shift issues. 3rd grinds when shifting up from second unless I early shift in and I CANNOT downshift into 3rd at all. 5th and reverse don't grind but it is EXTREMELY hard to force the shifter into either one. Any ideas here? Are they all the same issue or multiple issues? Any help would be appreciated.

While you are stopped, clutch down, shift into all gears including reverse. Will they all shift? If not, it could be pilot bearing, clutch or hydraulic issues. Did you check the transmission oil level or change it since you got the truck? If not, change it and see what the oil condition is. Pull the pto cover and inspect/clean the bottom good.

I haven't yet, I've been laid up with a ruptured disc. I'll check that and change the fluid and see if there is any improvement. Thank you again.
