Silent Might muffler from ROKKtechnologies

Turbo ?

Slushbox here is mine, i used BD's block and measured it and cut it out with the C n C then made the shifter end longer by cutting it and putting a piece in it. It works out real nice i reccomend it.

Wow, that looks very good :) I'm assuming, however thick you make the spacer plate, thats the same distance you extend the shift linkage? How thick was the spacer you made? thanks,

Lance

i dont remember how thick it was i copied the dimentions off of BD'S then cut my own block that blue block is BD's i dont have a pic of the one i made

how did you get that to work ? My 97 doesn't have a removeable tower like that.

Do you have the 4500 or 3500 5 spd ?? My manual shows a removeable tower on the 3500, but not the 4500.

i ordered a new transmission from blumenthal and they sent me that style transmission (thank god) i think they started late 97 early 98 like forrest said

If you can find a 98 or newer top cover & tower it will interchange.

I replaced mine with one off a 2002 transmission when I put my SBC DD in, and I LOVE IT! Oo. No need to spend $200+ on a short shift kit though.

Thats what i did, was bought a newer top cover, but dont have a shifter yet and want to build my own short throw kit, but need the dimensions. If anyone has them please post. thanks,

Lance

I had the BD one in my '03 NV4500. It shifted like crap. Real notchy and took a lot of force. Took it out and sold it. Come to think about it, it shifted like this NV5600 in my '02... ... ... ...

Sorry for being stupid here, but are you saying that if I can find a top cover & tower I can adapt it to my 96?

Would this require removing the transmission?

Thanks,

Lonnie

Yes if you can find the top cover for the transmission they are interchangeable. In fact they are identical except for the removeable shift tower, and the different gear shift for the tighter shifting pattern. However, yes you would have to remove the transmission to change the top cover.

I purchased my shifter from Quad4x4.com when I found my top cover through a TDR member. Quad had a top cover also but wanted $400 for it! I gave $150 for the one I got via TDR member. ;)

Thanks, Got Smoke?!

Rats, don't want to pull the transmission just for that! But I did get a rebuilt from Standard trans a couple years ago, guess I need to check it out & see what they gave me...

i was talking to a few mechanics at a local shop today about this. they said that if i were to move the pivot point up(short shift kit) its gonna make the trans shift worse. do the newer style top covers and shifter have a shorter throw than the old style. i have access to a friends cnc machine and could get him to make a spacer that is like half as tall. i think it might be a good compromise. id have to try a real short shift to compare though.

BTighe I dont know how much of a hurry you are in to do this but,In a couple of weeks i have to take down the trans in my truck so if you want to wait i could give you the dimentions

Michael

from what I've been told, yes they do. I have had a few people tell me if I use a 98 tower on my 97 transmission, it will be like putting in a short shift kit.

That's correct. That's what I did in my truck and I wouldn't go back to the other LONG throw shifter for anything! Oo.
