so I'm sure this has all been gone over, and I searched and found sprinkles of info here and there, but I'm still confused as to why an NV4500 conversion requires a "conversion" bellhousing?

I was under the impression that the 1st gen blocks and cranks were the same as the 2nd gen blocks and cranks... aparently that's not true. where exactly are the differences?

I appologize for the elementry questions...

TIA,

Forrest

Yes the blocks and cranks are the same but the 4500 has bolts in different places for the bell houseng than the getrag. The input shaft mite be different also

ah, OK... I've got a complete 2nd gen 12v setup... flywheel, clutch, block plate, bell, fork, etc. etc. etc.

it looks like the problem lies in the block plate thickness.

Forrest

I just put one in mine. You need the thicker '94 and up adapter behind the engine, and newer starter. One bolt hole is different on the starter mount. The newer starter body is positioned up towards the frame and is tight , but will fit and work just fine. If you have all the clutch parts, flywheel, bell housing and transmission, it sounds like you are ready to go. I made a custom . 5" thick 3" high mount to mount the 4x4 NV4500 to my factory mount. Hope this helps, you'll absolutely love the NV4500!
