Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Nv4500

I am wanting to swap my automatic to a 5sp and was wondering the difference in the 4500's for different years. I have only driven the 4500's in 98 and up trucks so do the older ones shift any different or anything? Especially the 94's because I have found a 94 transmission I am interested in purchasing.

My 95 nv4500 shifts the same as my sister's 98 nv4500 and her truck is a 24v.

The shifter was changed in '98. Shorter throws and thinner shifter shaft. Vaughn

Very intersting. Can an early ('95) trans be modified to have the shorter throws like the '98 ?? Man, I'd love that. . My shifter hits the ashtray into 3rd. . JG

I think Mark(GotSmoke?) swapped out the "top" of his 4500 with a later model for sweeter shifting.

That would be great. I hear tell the 6 spd won't go in (easily) into '95. .

Is there a recipe written down anywhere for swapping out an auto for a 5 or 6 speed? I've found a truck that's perfect in every way except it's an auto. Can somebody ballpark what such a conversion will cost.
