Why can't I find 4.10 truck?

Help for the inexperienced.



I have a NV4500 that I have little knowledge about. Would appreciate your experiences. Mine shelled at 95,000mi. Took it to a Dodge dealer after I totally lost fifth gear while traveling and pulling an RV. He replaced the fifth gear, synchro cluster, shaft seal, fork and fluid for $1450. 00. I made it forty five miles down the road before it jumped out of fifth gear.



My questions are:

How much faith should I have in a dealer rebuild.

How much life can I expect out of a dealer rebuild vs. a factory reman.

Does the dealer have access to the factory fixes that have been developed as a result of the apparent problems with this trans.

Is the new 6 speed interchangeable with the 5 speed.

The 6 speed needs alot to interchange. There are a couple places that sell the 4500 trans for $1500 fully rebuilt with a fully splined 5th gear shaft to fix the problem. I would look into having someone you trust fix the problem. Some dealers charge way to much and don't always fix the real problem correctly.



1st thing take it back and tell the to fix it under WARRENTY. If they won't, don't go back to them unless it is a last resort.
 
The only fix that works involves replace the stock mainshaft with one that is fullt splined where 5th gear sits
