I have a 12v that I want to put into my 74 IH crewcab. has anyone tried to put a nv 5600 into a 1st gen. Can you make a 5600 work with the np 205. I have a 205 out of a 1990. My IH truck also has a passenger front differential like the 1st gen. Any help is appreciated

The 5600 will bolt up without any problem providing the 205 is from a getrag, if it is from a 727 the coupling is not the same. Hope this helps. John

the nv 5600 has a 29 spline shaft, most 1st gen 205s have a 23 slpine shaft. quad4x4.com sales the shafts needed to convert the 205 to 29 spline. go there and do some reading up on the conversion

thanks guys that really does help my 205 is from a 727. i will read up on that tomorrow. the coupling that connects the splines is different so I can just get a coupling ? If so does anyone have a part number

you have to have the 205 input shaft changed over to 29 spline to. to do that you have to get it machined becuase the 29 spl. has bigger bearings

I replaced my Getrag-205 combo in my 89 with a 5600 from Blumenthals and the trans bolted directly to the 205 that came in the 89 truck. The only thing I had to do was remove the rear seal in the trans. Now the area between the trans. and transfer case is a wet sump rather than dry. John.

Getrag has 29 splines, autos have 23 splines. The conversion on an early auto is not a direct bolt up. In addtion there are issues with the acutator rod for the slave cylinder that can be a pain.
