i have a broken tooth on i think it is sixth gear on the output shaft, or main shaft side, the small gear right behind the 5-6 synchro, the bearings all look great, i took it apart to repair a third gear grind that is driving me crazy, it all looks good, does anyone know where i should buy a new sixth gear from?

thanks i will call them, i was going to send it out, but it cant be that hard to rebuild, and so far it is suprisingly easy, i will only need to make one simple tool for reassembly.

Let us know how it turns out ... . maybe I'll bring my "spare" up to you to do ! Most shops do not like to touch them at all.

We have an 04 that towed a 20K lb trailer for 240K miles... we took out the sixth gear 2 times... . If I'd know when I bought that truck I wouldn't have bought the 4. 10 ratio but the 3. 73 and driven it in 5th...

At any rpm this transmission is not designed for those loads in 6th gear... . when we finally left it in 5th... when towing hard... its worked and we also own 2 others that we don't as hard with... as we increase the load to back to 5th. .

i had a nv5600 go out on me with 62k on it... . bearing on the output shaft seized, then disintegrated and threw all its little bearings up into the transmission, turning it into trash. That was June 06 i believe... . took the dealer a month to get the parts... .

So how much weight towing before we should keep them in 5th? Is 10K too much for towing in 6th?

Also, would it be better to switch to the G series at some point instead of fixing the NV?

The NV5600 can last when towing heavy if it is treated properly. Overfill by putting in a total of 6. 5 qts of oil and do not let the engine rpm's get below 1800 when towing heavy.

Godspeed,
Trent
