NV5600 filter-which side?

Is there a preferred side to mount the filter? Tried a search on this but couldn't find the answer. I think I remember reading something about installing the filter on the driver's side, because of the shaft rotation and oil "sling" direction.



For those of you that have them, did you install with supplied gaskets or did you use sealer?



Any thoughts?

Drivers side.

I used the gaskets but you will probably need some RTV gasket maker to dab the bolts with to get a good seal.

I used the passenger side. Ditched the gaskets and used RTV. This is on a 1999. I don't think there is a difference??

NV-5600 Manual Transmission Filter Placement

When I installed my filter, from Quad 4X4 (same thing as the Geno's), I placed it on the passenger side. As I recall, the oil gets slung to that side of the trans. & into the filter housing. I know that question came up & that's why I remember it.

When I bought my filter, I found Dan to be very helpful & informative.



For what it's worth, I used 'only' the gaskets, provided, without any RTV. Since Aug. of '05, the gaskets have not leaked, at all. That doesn't mean that the RTV isn't better, though.

They go on the passenger side to get the proper oil flow through the filter. Dan (Quad 4x4) put one on my 4500 when he rebuilt it and I put one on the 5600 on the wife's '04. They both go on the passenger side per Dan.

I use the paper gasket, but not the cork gasket.

I've got the instructions in front of me...

passenger side, cork first, then plate, then rubber gasket, then filter/cover.
