My NV5600 has started having a problem with gear clash (grinding) when shifting from 5th to 6th. It shifts fine through all the other gears and into reverse. I have a releatively new SBC 13" clutch. It was doing this some prior to changing the clutch but is worse now. When I changed the fluid about 40K miles back I used Penzoil Syncromesh and added 6 ounces of Limited Slip additive. I am going to change the fluid soon and not put the additive back in. Has anyone else had problems with 5th to 6th gear?

Changed the fluid. It didn't help the problem. I'm really getting tired of the problems I have had with this truck. My 92 has been mostly trouble free since it was new, but this 2000 has been nothing but a money pit. The first 100K it was in the shop for warranty work a lot and since then I have replaced crank sensor 3 times, cam sensor once, VP44 once, 2 clutches, rebuilt starter, replaced steering linkage, gearbox and pump, dash is falling apart.

why are you putting in limited slip additive in your transmission. penz syn has everything you need. I cannot see any good with this being put in the your 5600. I would take all of that out clean out the most you can with both covers off let if sit over night. I have used Redline fluid for a long time. but put what ever you want in it.

The 5600 has synchro with linings same as in the limited slip rearend. The additive I was told (several on here have used it) smooths the shifting. It did seem to help in the lower gears (2 through 5).

well its your transmission. I can honestly say that my entire time of having 3 different nv5600 that I have never used it or heard honestly 1 person adding it to it. but hell maybe I will learn something here. but I will not be using it. I had the same notchy crap in this current transmission when I was using penz switched to redline and no more problems. run a added filter and use around 6. 5 quarts. 170k miles so far

Found the Redline MTL at Jegs for 9. 99 a bottle. Have it ordered. After changing the fluid to the Syncromesh without any additive the grinding is worse. I just read on here somewhere that when the bearing near the 6th gears starts going it throws things out of alingment enought the sycnros don't work properly. Since syncros aren't available for my transmission it would mean a new transmission and clutch disc for the newer 1 3/8" input shaft and I have only about 900 miles on my SB 1. 25" input 13" conversion clutch. If I have to go for a new transmission, I'll just throw the truck away to some dealer and get another brand.

there is a rebuilder in oklahoma that really isn't to bad for what they do. cannot think of their name. if this comes to that.

Probably Blumenthal. I'm just tired of throwing money into this money pit peace of junk from Chrysler. I have been a Chrylser person since the 50's, but this one has ruined me.

My 5600 does the same thing going from 5th to 6th. I've learned to give it a quick double clutch between the gears and it slips right in. Clutch pedal in, out of 5th, clutch pedal out, clutch pedal back in, into 6th. Slips right into 6th smooth as butter. All this in one fluid motion. If I don't do that, it grinds every time. I run Redline MTL in my trans too. . no anti-slip in there yet, but I plan to add it to see if it helps my notchy 2nd-3rd shift.

had this on my 03 5600 at 69000 miles on warenty.
synk 5/6 went bad they coultnt get a new synk so they put in a rebuilt transmission. i could doubel clutch and it worked ok
