Control arm troubles

Info on my truck - 308,000. Trans was rebuilt at 250,000. New Clutch at 180,000, new penzoil synchromesh 10,000 miles ago overfilled with pto covers.

Drove from Atlanta to Bham and when I stopped off the highway I noticed my entire shifter felt loose and I had a really hard time moving the selector left to get it into second gear. Was finally able to move it over to second then when I tried to shift into 5th it wouldn't go at all. Eased it to my destination and let it sit for around three hours. After it cooled it was still very hard to move the shifter left to right but I was able to get it into 5th-6th with some persuasion.

Update after getting it back home to Atlanta - I thought maybe it was a shifter issue so I ordered another shifter from Allstate gear and welded my shift handle. No help and still having the same issues and now it's hard to get it into 2nd and 3rd with the truck running. Main Issues are every gear selection feels undefined, hard to move shifter left to right, and gears are grinding/hard to get into. This problem arose out of the blue and all at once. Any ideas are helpful. I use this truck every week for work towing a small 3,000lb trailer and need it back to normal asap.

To help with diagnosing your symptoms and for clarification, try this procedure:

Engine off, transfer case in neutral, and clutch pedal depressed; try selecting every gear. If the shifter works fine (with the exception of occasionally bumping two gears head on) then the problem is either in the clutch / pressure plate assembly, throw-out fork / hydraulics, or the pilot bearing. If the shifter is difficult to move right to left or left to right (as you have mentioned) while in neutral, then there is a problem in the shift tower or shift forks.

Without your hand on the shifter, the shifter should align with 3rd and 4th gear. There should be light spring tension when you pull the shifter to the left (for 1st and 2nd gear alignment) and light spring tension when you pull the shifter to the right (for 5th and 6th gear alignment). There should be heavier spring tension as you pull the shifter further to the right for reverse gear alignment.

Why was the transmission rebuilt at 250,000 miles?
