NV says that the OEM factory lube is a life time fill  . Just wondering how long has any member driven without changing the original factory fill? Also How long has anyone gone using a different lube in their NV5600? Who has the most mileage on their NV5600 with no problems and what lube have you been using? Sorry for all of the questions just want some real world information, since we have been debating what we should be using in the NV5600.

Thanks

I was pretty excited to read in my owners manual about the life time fill. I should have known better, I started having shifting problems at about 20K miles.

I changed mine out at 23K miles when the gear lube debate started. I used the factory stuff because it's all I could find, and I figured it was better then leaving the old stuff in there. It didn't help much.

I'll try Peters suggestion next, I just need to order the stuff. The joys of living in small remote towns:rolleyes: .

So far I have 44,000 miles on my factory lube. The NV5600 shifts perfectly, but I'll probably change it out this spring. I did the rear end lube at around 10k though.

I was gonna start a post just like this one!!!!

I have 70,000 on the Factory Lube. I believe that if I don't change mine soon I will destroy the synchros. It shifted great for a little under 2 years, but after about 55k it has gotten worse and worse. Now sometimes I have to skip a gear to not get run over while I get it in gear leaving a stoplight. I am picking up some lube this weekend to change it out. I have stopped driving it as a daily driver because of this problem. I know it is the lube.

I am not gonna go with the stock lube. I think that if it was rated for a lifetime lube and it is breaking down already it is not the quality that I would endorse. I don't want to get into a debate over which to use. But I would say from experience that the stock lube is a 50k lube!! If you go beyond that you are taking a chance!

My last question is who has some miles on something else beside stock and what change intervals are you running?

I think I changed out all my lubricants to Amsoil synthetics at ~32K miles. Waited that long since I had a rather sizable stock pile of Delo 400 for the engine, and wanted to wait until that all ran out before I switched over, and just wanted to do all parts at the same time.

67k on the OEM lube. No problems. I did tow quite a bit last summer so I will likely want to change the lube this spring.

For those using synth. , WITHOUT using brand names, what did you use (viscosity, gear, ATF, ... )?

Test the Oil!

Not sure just looking at the oil, or using how it ****s is the anwser!

Send a sample of the oil it prior to changing. It is a shame to change perfectly good oil even if it has 50K on it. On the other had (most likely the cast here) even with only 20K on the oil, it might have abnormal wear metals, high acidic, etc. It would also be a way to see WHAT is wearing.

CTC Analytical Services (http://www.ctclink.com/) is a great indepented testing lab with labs all over the country. They now have an online service for sample reporting and comparing past samples.

You could check with the lab if they have a new oil sample of the factory lube if not provide a sample of some (if you have it) to really have a before and after change.
