Does the factory dodge manual cover the nv5600 overhaul or do I need some other manual? Is there anything unique about these that I will even need a manual for, other than a parts/assembly diagram. Are there any special tools needed? Mine lost sixth gear  and I'm going to tear it down and see if it's rebuildable for less than a new or rebuilt. Thanks for the help. Jake

The manual for the 1999 3500 is fairly complete regarding the rebuilding of a 5600. I was considering rebuilding mine to fix a supposed faulty main shaft bearing rattle (found out later it was the new SBC clutch causing the infamous idle clatter in the input shaft). After seeing the complexity of the unit and the specialized tools involved including a hydraulic press, I bit the bullet and bought a rebuilt for $1800 and still have the clatter!!!

I'm an ag/truck mechanic so rebuilding it does'nt worry me unless I need some special tools that will cost more than a rebuilt. I have all the basics as well as pullers, bearing spliters, hyd. press, ect. I guess it's time to order a manual. I hope the '01 still covers the trans. Jake

The '01 manual covers the 5600 pretty well. It does list some special tools, but I think most of them can be gotten by without.

An assembly jig is mentioned, and can be built. I remember a holding fixture for an assembly as it comes off a shaft, I figured some plywood and c-clamps would suffice.

I can't recall what else was needed as far as special tools, nothing that would scare me off attempting my own rebuild, if it was worth it time wise.
