Im starting to get a lil worried here... On saturday I had a heavier duty clutch installed in my truck (ceramic button type)... Everything seemed great when I left the transmission shop and headed home which was 100 miles away... When I was about 4 miles from the house I was sitting in traffic with the clutch pedal out and the trans in neutral and I start to notice a noise comming from my trans... At first it sounded like the normal gear lash noise that alot of Nv5600's have... The thing that worried me though is that at 20k miles (truck has 26K on it now) I decided to change the transmission fluid and I put in Royal Purple Synchromax. . The Royal Purple seemed to eliminate the gear lash noise that the transmission had since pretty much day 1. . And now all of the sudden its back after doing a clutch swap... It seems to have gotten a lil louder the past couple of days... If it wasnt for the fact that the transmission still shifts beautifully and I am not feeling n e abnormal vibrations comming through the shifter (either while driving or sitting in neutral) I would lean towards a bearing going bad... I was wondering if n e one else has had a similar experience when going to a heavier clutch... I talked to a friend of mine who has been turning wrenches professionally for 40+ yrs and he thinks that the noise is from extra vibrations and such comming through the clutch disk due to the much heavier center section and beefier dampening springs not being as forgiving as the stock components... Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I had a Con O in my 2000 that always rattled a little with the clutch out. Figured it was from the center section. Never had any trouble from it in 75K miles.

I don't think you should be worried. I agree that the heavier-duty clutch components you just installed are transmitting more noise. If you're really worried, though, change out the fluid and see what it looks like when it comes out and how much material is on the magnet. That should give you some peace of mind...

I'm sure the RP stuff is quality. But for a change, how about something like Redline that a lot of people like? Just a suggestion... I've only ever used the stock Pennzoil stuff.

In order to pull the transmission, you DO have to pull out the shifter - which creates the potential for trash to get into the transmission innards thru the large opening where the shifter mounts - what can happen next in that case depends on WHAT gets into the transmission and where...

A good lube change might be a good investment... ;)

After I wore the clutch in for 400 miles or so I decided to go playing on a back road... Did a couple of hard 4wd launches and 2000 rpm stomps... I noticed on my way back home that the noise had quieted down a bit... I can barely hear it at stop lights and such now... Guess the dampening springs just needed to be broken in as well... Thx for all yalls advide... I went ahead and changed out the fluid with royal purple again just for and giggles...
