when I push in the clutch on my 6 spd it makes a whining noise like a bearing. When released it goes away. Shifts fine. Drained old fluid and filled with 6 quarts of new fluid, no change. Been doing this for a few weeks. Going on trip next weekend and don’t want my trans to fail, any suggestions?

I see you have a double disk, those are somewhat noisy disengaged but if it’s a new noise then it sounds like a throwout bearing to me, trans will have to be dropped to access it.

That’s what I think as well. Anyone know of a good trans shop in MD/PA/WV/VA that works on these? I know of a handful of trans shops but they only do autos

When you push the clutch pedal down and the input shaft stops turning, you have effectively removed the trans from the question cause its no longer rotating.

But at the same time now the release bearing has a full load on it AND the pilot bearing is now fully active, engine RPM vs a shaft that is not rotating. Those would be first choices for noise with the pedal DOWN.

If the noise is only when the clutch is pressed and its in gear then its the pilot bearing. Usually a bad pilot bearing with cause shifting issues, especially getting into gear from a stop.
