Looking to change out my oil in the '01 NV5600. Just about to order some amsoil MTF. How much should I order and is there a procedure that works well in doing this job? Just don't want to re invent the wheel here!

Again what is the capacity of the NV 5600 and how do I get it in there? thanks baron

1. You NV5600 does not take Amsoil MTF, so don't order it. You need Amsoil 5w30 HDD Series 3000 oil (4 qts).

2. Get a 17mm Hex Key. Remove the the fill plug. It is behind the drivers side PTO cover about half way up the transmission.

3. Remove the drivers side PTO cover (six bolts). The fluid will begin to drain when you remove the bottom bolts, but take the cover completely off. After removing cover, reach inside and you should feel a magnet. Take it out, clean it, and reinstall it.

4. Clean the gasket surface of both the PTO cover and where it mounts to the case. Reapply a good quality gasket sealer (ultra grey works great). Wait about 10 min then reattach PTO cover to transmission case. Tighten bolts.

5. Fill transmission with 4qts of transmission fluid. I have found that if you get a small funnel and attach a 6" piece of 5/8" heater hose to the bottom, it will allow for an easier time when adding the fluid.

6. Fill transmission until fluid is comming back out fill plug. Reinstall fill plug and you are done. It should take around 45min - 1hr to complete.

Thank you sir for the instructional. I have read some posts that Amsoil has just come out with the MTF specifically made for the NV5600 so I will wait to see if others post anything on this. Your procedure directions are just what I was looking for. thanks

Just a note, I found it easier to add the oil by pulling the shifter and pouring it down into the transmission from there. VERY easy, and it doesn't take much to pull the small console (if you have it) and the shifter.

This keeps from the hassle it takes to put oil in from the fill hole, unless you have a nice pump setup.

After much rumination I went to the royal purple website and ordered 4 qts of the manual trans syncromax. No shipping costs... ... . they call it handling instead for $7!

Capacity is 9. 5 pints/4. 75 quarts,need another quart me thinks ;)

If you really want a complete oil change you need to get a suction gun in there through the side cover and suck out the oil that is in the back end where it is lower, this is what I do anyway on my '98. It then takes closer to 5 qts of oil. I just ordered some of the new Amsoil MTF. I have been running Amsoil Series 3000 HDD 5w30. I suppose if you don't have a suction gun you could mop it out with paper towels or something.
