Hi Everyone,

Lately I've been noticing my 6-speed's popping out of reverse. It pretty much ok when just idliling backward, but when you give it some torque it pops right out. Sometime it hangs out in that in-between spot that is out of gear, but still in the hole, and if you give it enough throttle it will pop all the way back out to neutral. Other than that its working great, I changed the oil to Redline (MT-90?) and put 5k on it and the 3rd gear notch is gone even when cold, and it shifts up and down like a champ.

Does anyone have experience with this problem? What could be wrong? I don't even know how a gear stays in place let alone how it could fail.

Reverse and 3rd are on two different shafts. You have to take out the trans and tare it down. There is a set of 3 balls and springs pur gear. The springs some how get turned sideways in there or the balls bust. I just rebuilt my NV5600 (not fun!) You will need spacial tools and the trans alone ways 360lbs alone.

There is a detent ball that you can reach from the out side of the trans in the rear on the right. A large plug with a spring and a plunger and ball under it, you could look at it also.
