I was considering one for my 03, until one day I took out the stock shifter complete with the ball lined up, and I bent it until the 5th gear is where 3rd used to be (or maybe even between 1st and 3rd), and just a hair closer to the console.
I bent it in a press, between wood blocks, and it bent where the diameter is reduced. I stopped when the upper rod (which did not bend) was in-line with the taper angle on one side. Turned out perfect. I can reach it so easily, and the length is just right for my 6'2" height. Haven't missed a shift since. The ball points in a more natural direction too.
All you do is pry out the vinyl boot from the floor console with a knife, then hold the rod and the shaft with a wrench/vise grip. Keep the ball on so you know which way to bend it, and how much to torque it back on.
I also removed the ball afterwards, and tightened it on as far down as it goes, unti it almost hits the cover. It shortened the lever about half an inch, and the throw.
