Ordered a Phantom II Temp gauge (and a matching fuel pressure to replace the Phantom I, check the TDR ads Monday!!!)

Curious as to where to put the probe. Having not seen the kit yet, I'm not sure if I can utilize the drain plug hole or one of the other bolt holes that also allow fluid to drain out (all of them?). I this is the case, the more "middle" plug would be preferable as apposed to a bottom one I assume.

I've searched and the majority of these results show tips for you automagic transmission people. One member drilled and tapped the PTO cover in the middle and I think the FASS coolers have a tap already.

Suggestions? I'd like to not spend any more money and I don't wish to do a transmission fluid change just yet.

Be very carfull where you tap the PTO cover. Pick the wrong spot and the probe can wind up in a gear. I run fast coolers and use the ports on them for temp and with two of them you gain another 1/2 gallon of lube for the transmission. ;)

Unless the probe sticks past the cover by 2 inches, I highly doubt that would be an issue. The gears ride further back in the case than that...

I mounted mine in the cover without issue... even with the FAST coolers, it's still in the cover.

I need to check

When my trans, diffs and x-fer case need a chaning (all amsoil, so I extend the diffs) at that time I'd prolly get the fass coolers.

Any issues tho with using a bolt hole that's already there?

hmmm, I didnt even consider that part, figured they were the same size. Maybe I'll order that case of transmission gear oil and fass coolers.

You're going to be looking a while for FASS coolers... I'm running FAST coolers with seemingly good results... ;)

Finally! installed

Got the A-pillar Edge + 1 pod this weekend in. Installed the Temp sensor just today. lemme say moving the Rail pressure gauge over to the a-pillar is a good idea!

Trans sending probe was rather easy once I rented a 1/2" drill, and a 9/16th bit so I can tap the 3/8 adapter in the PTO cover. I aligned the adapter with the bottom 2 holes, so I should be near the middle of the oil level.

As far as brazing the adapter in place, unable to get a hold of the person hat was suppose to help with that, so I bought a small set of JB weld. possibly a better idea over all.

I ran the tap 3/4 the way though. As I was installing the adapter I ran some JB weld in the threads and on the adapter threads once I had it tight I coated the outside with a NICE healthy dose of JB weld. I used a torch to keep the metal's warm while doing this (40 degrees out). Once things start to setup I brought the PTO cover inside and set it on a heater vent for 2 hours or so to cure. Remember to use a wire brush to get everything extra clean and grooved.

RTV on the PTO over. Let that set up for another 2 hours with the kareoseen heater pointed at it (hey, needed to run it outa fuel for the summer? :) )

Filled transmission with 20%-ish Lucas and the rest 5w-30 syncro mesh from AMSOIL.

Shifting it better too BTW :) needed a trans flush I guess. 15 miles later, I had 120 degree trans.
