What is a normal range of operating temp for the NV5600?

I have a buddy down in AZ (55° outside) and is noticing some high temps when driving. In the 200-220° range.

He is running Amsoil and it was changed within the last few months.

Is that a normal temp?

It takes a long time for mine to register 100+ degrees. But I just went snowmobiling yesterday towing about 7K and about 70 or so miles at 70 MPH getting into the hills it would go to 210 or so. The only time my 5600 makes temp is rolling down the freeway for a long time. Stop and go in town it barely makes 120 all day long. Thats with syncromesh and fastcoolers. I think the syncromesh is good to around 300 degrees because these trannys do run fairly warm. Hope this helps out Byron.

Temps

On cold days in town low 100`s is normal. On freeway for 50 miles 200 is normal.

On freeway with outside temps over 100 will push transmission temps past 230. All of these running empty.

Byron, you should talk to Livingez123 on the Bombers site. He has a temp gauge and I have heard him talk about temps once in a while. Though, his may be all while towing.

Gearboxes tend to run pretty warm. Thats one of the reasons teh Fast Coolers are so nice. I'd say they are good for about a 10-20 degree reduction when pulling. I had them on my 03 but never hooked the gauge up.

I've got fastcoolers my 5600 and it runs about 190-195 stabilized on a long run 500+miles. The trans is hooked to the engine block and oil/coolant runs about 190... heat transfer. I've seen 220 one time when it was 103F going across I-40 into AR from TN. Had a heavy head-wind too. Never have seen it over 210 while towing, but it's never been that hot when I've towed either. I think the fastcoolers are worth about 10-20F too.

10-20 doesnt sound like much. I have been considering buying the fast-cooler but I guess now i'm wondering if that is enough difference to matter. I jam the gears enough I figure i'll be buyin a new one one of these days. Are there any other upgrades avaliable for my current stock transmission or is there anything avaliable in the aftermarket?

OK, before fast coolers, I ran more less 100*F (cooler ambient temps) to 135*F (higher ambient temps) unloaded. I have since added coolers and while I have only had it to 90*F Ambients, but it seems to run under 100*F above ambient temps (or in other words at 90*F, it runs around 185*F)... and this was towing a small trailer and a 1500 slide in camper in the back.

I also found that with my NV5600, overfilling by a quart (before adding the coolers) caused the transmission to run hotter (with the same fluid used in the previous fill)... so I am not convinced that is such a good idea and I am not running overfilled with the FastCoolers like they suggest.

The hottest temp I ever reached without coolers was 235*F.
