Got a question, Will a G56 bolt up to my 2004? im thinking about doing a transmission swap and i heard that the G56's are better than the NV5600. Thanks in advance guys

Opinions vary as to the G56 being any "better" as far as ruggedness or performance - but may well be better in terms of replacement parts availability...

A G56 is not necessarily better than a NV5600. It does shift easier. I don't believe it's worth the trouble to do a swap out.

The G-56 is a German design and made in Brazil, IIRC. The case is aluminum. Lighter weight, less robust would be my guess. Early G-56s had a bad choice of gearing for our Dodge Rams. They were geared too low. Later models used improved gearing with slightly taller gears more suitable to the rorque of our Cummins engines.

Id say the NV is the stronger of the two, but saying one is overall better than the other would be pushing it. Both are good trannys, each have their pluses and negatives...

Keep the NV. Nothing wrong with it

Andersonville,

I assume your truck is used for commercial hauling with that kind of miles. Your comment indicates you believe the "DMF was the problem. " Does that mean you replaced the DMF with a conventional flywheel and clutch? If so, how many miles and what kind of work has the truck performed with a solid flywheel? Is it holding up okay?

Some of us have assumed that the DMF was selected for use w/ the G-56 to provide protection against extreme shock loading for the aluminum case. Maybe is was only selected by Dodge for NVH improvements. Any comments on your experience?
