I know I don't have a first gen anymore... but I like this forum more than any of the others. :)

Having said that, I would recommend the NV5600 to any of you first genners out there who want to get rid of their G360.

I just traded my truck truck in for another 02 but with a six speed (it's the exact same truck as my old one, same color, same configuration... but with a few more options). I got sick of the weak, expensive auto... I missed rowing. The NV5600 wasn't nearly as notchy or sluggish as I would have expected.

I'm sure Marty1 can attest to this... :D

Has anyone started producing a first gen NV5600 conversion kit yet?

Quad 4x4 seems to be the likely place to get one but they do say... ... ... .

"For 1989-1993 models, it is tougher (and more expensive) due to the integral bellhousing design of the NV5600. A new flywheel housing (the factory adapter between the engine and bellhousing), cross member fabrication, floor modifications, clutch release components, starter, exhaust rerouting, and driveline modifications will be required. These extra parts (and labor) added to the expense of the transmission itself, make retrofitting the NV5600 into first generation trucks a challange to the average truck owner. Yet it can and has been done. "

Yeah, I wanted to put an NV5600 in my old 93... but the difficulty and cost were a little much. I was just curiouse if anyone had designed and marketed a kit yet. Standard Transmission has had the NV4500 conversion kit for some time.

Actually it's pretty easy. Just need to make a new cross member and do a little fitting. All the other parts are bought.

When I converted my truck to a NV4500 I looked at that idea because..... well a 6 speed would be COOL!!!!!

But after looking at the cost and added downtime for fabbing stuff and the added expense of other adapters and such I felt the NV4500 w/ the fully splined mainshaft was the way to go for now.

I dont tow enough weight to need the NV5600 and the NV4500 was a HUGE upgrade compared to the G360 anyways... .

Quad 4x4 Was great to deal with and I did not ever have any problems with them. I've orderd a few other things from them since as the service was exclent and it's much easier to order it online and get a video + instructions for most items than to wait in line forever to buy a junk part at my local NAPA that costs the same.
