It's funny, I bought mine used and it is an Automatic. I wanted a 6 speed and settled for the auto. After being on this site for a while, I've come to the conclusion that the auto is not Dodges weak link. Seems like the strongest transmission is the auto with the DTT modifications and it is not that expensive. Looks like I bought the right truck. Like everything else in life, I never do the smart thing based on some great plan, it just happens :D

Nothings perfect... I think the approval of synthectic gear lube would take care of most temp problems.

There are some products in the pipe that will make the ETH very desireable.

The 6spd is essentially a great transmission there was a sizable run with a manufacturing defect. The newer NV5600s are all but bullet proff.

I've been talking to ATS about Don Ramers truck. He has a V series race pump that's cool but there are some kinks to work out in the supply line before its available. It is some neat stuff that is interesting to say the least.

They are also working on an affordable cam, some pretty good head porting and O-ring solutions. I know that the cam is as radical as can be used with stock pistons and valvetrain.

This stuff will help all 24v trucks but when you mod an ETC and ETH to the same level the ETH is gonna have a 17:1 compression ratio compared to the 16:1 of the ETC. At lower boost levels this is better. I dunno about higher levels.

Latest Update

Well, I took my truck to another dealer yesterday.

It took them less than 10 minutes to come up with the TSB. I looked upon this as a good sign. The mechanic was familiar with the problem.

After a 45 minute drive to get the dealership, the service writer says after I get out of the truck. "We will have to reproduce the problem to do anything for you. "

To which I replied "I hope you've got a big refridgerator to store it in. Your own TSB say it only happens when it's cold. ":-{}

This is my 3rd Chrysler product. All three have been better than decent vehicles. The only problem is chrysler dealer service stinks (probably what I should write across my back bumper) in this area of the country making the warranties basically useless. I based this opinion on 6 warranty issues for the 3 vehicles I've owned over 9 years on service at now 6 different dealers.

Personally, I think it's pretty stupid to tick off a customer who's purchased 3 vehicles from them in the last 9 years and was planning on a Jeep Liberty next year. (My wife will just have to get over it. )

I'm not going to fret about it. I still have 13,000 miles on the warranty for Chrylser to come through. If they don't, I've learned my lesson and I'll take my purchasing power elsewhere.

3 strikes and your OUT!

Call Chrysler and complain!!!

that's BS

I am guessing that a synthetic may not be the answer either. I only had a slight hint of a third gear clash with the original oil in the transmission. I put Amsoil 5/30 in it and the next sub 0C. day it ground like crazy! You would have thought I was down shifting an idled engine. There was no finessing it in either. I will be going back to a non-synth. oil in my transmission. One thing it has done since new is not let me have any gear while stopped and at idle:eek: Just once in a great while. I remember the first time it happened, rush hour in L. A. Stopped at a red light at the end of the marina freeway. I was just a little late in noticing the light (response time . 872 sec. ) and horns started honking. It wouldn't go in any gear:mad: Not even Reverse, which I am really glad about now that I can look back through less angry eyes:rolleyes: I never took it in due to the "we must duplicate all complaints or else they don't really exist", service protocols. It has only happened a dozen times inthe last 50k miles. Foot off the brake, a slight neutral roll and I'm back in gear and Rammin'. What can you do. :(

Come to think of it, we took my wifes Brand New 4x4 4door V8 auto Dakota in because once in awhile when you put it in reverse it just grinds. You don't go anywhere, it just grinds. They said, we couldn't duplicate it. We "checked it out, it seems fine. My Wifes Dakota does the same thing, (this from a service writer!) it's just one of those things this transmission does". #@$%! We had purchased it new a week before. Next time it does it when I am driving, I am going to WOT as long as there is still a hint of grinding noise! Once the sound is gone, I will call a tow truck, and then they will have a problem they can "Duplicate"!!!!!!!!

Call Chrysler? You'd better believe it!

Mark;

I crawled up and down the regional service rep for Chrysler when my 92 started peeling paint. After listening to him cuss me out for about 15 minutes that is. (long story) I had to read my warranty book to him to get a new paint job under warranty.

First Chrysler just repainted the hood, top, and trunk. Even against my strenuous complaints. Less than a week after I got my car out of the bodyshop, the sides started peeling. Then, they had to repaint the whole car.

Chrysler felt it wasn't there problem since it was the Dupont primer that caused the problem.

After my latest conversation, my ire is definitely raised and my defeatist attitude has been stowed.

Chrysler may not fix this under warranty, but they won't stop hearing about it while I can draw a breath.

Have I mentioned I that I can write in German? The boys in the real corporate office may be hearing about this before it's over with.

The real point behind my earlier email is this:

Companys who put loyal (3 purchases in 9 years is pretty loyal) customers through this kind of crap don't deserve to have customers.

stick in a bucket of rocks

My transmission STILL shifts like a stick in a bucket of rocks. Its not getting any better, and I am not getting any happier.

jtisdale, how many miles on your truck? After 5300 miles my trans is shifting better, easier to shift and find gears at stoplights. Aside from the cold grind problem of course.

For everybody's information, from dodgeram.org I found the TSB title listed as:

21-009-01, Oct 01, M/T NV5600 6 Speed Gear Clash

Anybody got a printout of the actual TSB?

RS

New it was great! then along came 4500 miles- thats when it went south. Now I have 11,000 miles on it and it sucks.

Jtisdale,

I must be blind or dyslexic(sp). I cannot find that TSB on the dodgeram.org site or the alldata site. Can you post the link to it?

Sorry for being a pain

Kraut

Why is a six speed TSB listed under the 5. 9 V-8 360 MENU?

Thats why none of us could find it. See...
