UPDATE. Well its been roughly 8 months since the repair was done. Lots of trips with camper and my tandem deck trailer I use to haul my SxS Toy. Last trip was roughly 3000 miles to Saskatchewan and back loaded with 11,500 lbs. Probably have put around 8000 miles on it. No problem's so far or new noises. Happy so far with the fifthgearrepair.com I used.

New update. It has been just over a Year and a half since the fifthgearrepair.com was installed. So far no issues and this summer I have done a number of loaded pulls with camper and trailer with my Side by Side loaded. Always running when loaded with that combination around 15,500 lbs. Mountains are normal for me where I live. I have also done some hauling with my car trailer loaded . Weight around15,000 lbs with that combo also. I will update in 6 months or so.
And today I am doing the heater core in my 97 Ram 1500 2x4. Its time , Winters coming. Using the procedure Joe Donnely wrote up back in issue 46. This will be the second time I have used his procedure.

Update . I was experiencing poor shift quality using the Amzoil lubricant that is supposedly formulated for use in the NVG 4500 5 speed trans. Oil was in trans for just over two years and had possibly 20,000 miles at most.
Decided to refill with correct (extremely expensive) Mopar/Castrol lube. Drained and mopped out some very black looking oil. Refilled with 4 1/2 quarts of correct lube and so far its shifting quite well for a high mile trans. Will be going on a trip later this month and will be loaded up to 15,500 lbs. Trip should be about 2000 miles in all.

I ran almost 400K miles on my NV4500 with Amsoil MTG. I changed it three times and never found any sludge in the transmission or had any shifting or unusual wear issues.

I changed the oil out of my NV 4500 at ~100000 miles. It was black and that was the reason to change. Saved the oil in a clear plastic bottle. Some time passed and all the black settled to the bottom. Oil looked good as new. I believe the black is from the syncros, they are not brass.
