Doing a favor for my nephew last night, I trashed my tailgate. The black trim piece and the latching hardware look good. Just need a straight gate. Mine is a '98 3/4 ton, Deep Amethyst, but I'm expecting to have to repaint.

Anyone in the NW know where I can find one at a good price?

TIA,

Jay

Wait! You have an Amethyst '98 12v 5spd quad cab!!!??? I would kill to have that truck!!!

I had a '99 Amethyst 2500 that I trashed the tailgate getting pulled out of mud when I got it stuck. It's just such a very rare color, that there's no chance of finding a gate laying around. You'll have to repaint one.

Aren't there any flat-bed installers or lift-gate installers in your area? You should easily find a white one there.

I knew it wouldn't be too long 'til someone on this board showed up with one. Ugh! I'm not drooling, I'm crying!:( :(

I know of a guy in conn who is getting rid of an entire bed including the tailgate... . The Bed is coming off a huntergreen 2500 with the SLT package. I think he wants $500 bucks for the entire bed but maybe I could work something out with him. Write me an e-mail if interested -- email address removed --

MikeR,

Thanks for the words of enthusiasm! It is pretty when shined up. Unfortunately the previous owner wasn't that careful and it has a few blemishes, but I'm working on them. The worst ones were on the tailgate. Yes, I realize I won't find one that color, unless I'm extremely lucky. So re-painting is expected.

I may have found a white one off a dually, and I'm trying to get a price/availablity committment from a county road crew in Oregon that just put on a hydraulic lift gate on a 3/4 ton. These things are very, very difficult to come by. But you'd think with so many pulling 5-ers or putting on flatbeds, someone would have one they don't need.

I've already tried the utility bed conversion places. When they have them, the only sell the bed/gate as a set. They often sell them to the body shops, but none around here seem to have any.

Dieselmann,

I sent you a private message, since you said you were looking for a bed. I found a new bed/gate combination at a wrecking yard, but again, sold only as a set. I think I'm farther away then you want to travel, though.

Keep nosing around, guys. Any 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, or dually, '94 and up will work, so I'v heard. The duallys may have the lightbar is the only difference. I'll let you know if I score one of the 2 I've located.

Thanks,

Jay

JGK,

I have a tailgate from a white 96 dually. It is in Denver though. If it doesnt work out for the ones you found up there let me know.

For anbody else needing an older one, I have a tailgate for a 92 3/4 ton also, sand color.

Have you found one yet?

JGK,

Just called a local place and they have a silver one in stock for $300. He says it's in "great shape". I don't know what they are worth but if you want I can go look at it and let you know what shape it's in and even get a picture if need be. I'm in Lewiston Idaho. Let me know.

I think I've found one

GTX, Ray,

I think I've nailed one down. At a body shop in Enterprise, Oregon. It's from a '95 or '96 dually. $275. If this falls through, I will be calling you first, Ray, then GTX.

Thank you for your efforts. I will try to get a picture to post for MikeR.

This site is wonderful.

I was told that the dually (3500) tailgate was different from the 2500 tailgate. It might be worth checking with a dealer!!

Tommy,

I did just that. Talked to the bodyshop at the dealer. He said about the only difference is the lightbar some have. He said my 2500 is wired for them so if the gate has them, I can use them!

Let's hope he knows what he's talking about

Thanks,

Jay

No, please no pictures! It's killing me! Rob posted that picture of my "old" truck and it's killing me! :(

The only difference between 2500 and 3500 tailgates are the maker lights added for the duallys. The 2500's are not wired for the dually tailgate lights. When I installed dually gate lights on my 2500 I had to tap into the license plate lights.

jgk,

My father in law might have one. He never uses his , instead he uses a 5-er tailgate. His truck is a y2k 2500and is burgundy. Let me know if you want me to check on this for you.

JAnderson,

Thank you. The bodyshop that has the dually gate is going to paint it for me and have it all ready by about mid-week. I will then drive up and put it on. Unless it doesn't work out somehow, I think I'm OK. I will let you know if come back "tailless".

Thanks,

Jay

P. S. Truck has been washed. Weather looks good for a picture, MikeR. I just haven't had the time yet.

Tailgates I Have Two (1-97 & 1-01)

I have two tailgates that I would be willing to part with. They are from slt 2500 trucks. Both in excellent condition. The 97 is the wine colored red and the 01 is Garnet. I do not know how to contact you. I am in San Antonio, Texas. I have not used the tailgates as I installed a 5-er tailgate. I am not verry computer savy. If you are interested in them and can find a way for us to talk I would be willing to deal.

Well, I have a couple of pictures for MikeR, but I am having no luck attaching them. They are of the right size and format, but for some reason they just won't display (using the "Attach file" box below).

Rickoshay,

See my last post above. I think I'm OK. But thank you anyway. Other members looking for a gate should be made aware of these from all you guys.

I'll let you know how it turns out next week.

Can anyone help me on attaching a file? I've been in the IT business for 21 years, so I SHOULD know what I'm doing, but for some reason, . JPG and . GIF files from my PC won't display. Seems like they are uploading, though.

Thanks,

Jay

email them to me and I'll attach them

If you want to email them to me I'll put them up for you.
