I'd love to just stay in ny and keep my credentials etc but even upstate there just too much bad news. The NYSDEP is worse than Gestapo. Pa just seems like its loaded with freedom.

The wife grew up on 266th St. in Queens. After living all these years now out in the middle of nowhere here in PA, she'd never go back. It's like living on a different planet compared to the city.

I remember reading that. Now Queens has suffered the same fate as Staten Island. They both were once open spaces. I love the island as it was as I was a kid. But as its changing, so must I. Thing is I'm not looking to change where I wind up like the foreigners coming in. The word is ASSIMILATE. Kinda like our ancestors did.

I think the last time she was back to their original place was 1986 or '87. She said that in the '70's, they had a nice little yard around the apartment building they were in. I've asked her many times if she would like to go back to visit the area and she wants no parts of it.

Most of her family are Upstate now.

Really getting off topic now but I watched a documentary years ago on NYC sanitation workers and boy oh boy do them boys get a work out!! Talk about a bunch of apes swingin garbage cans :-laf:-laf I wouldn't wanna mess with any of em, they all looked like they were about to bust out of their shirts. Around here, they make a stop for trash then they might have a few miles drive to the next pick up. Not so in the big apple. And I seem to remember the one guy saying with overtime he makes 100k a year  Does that sound right, Wayne? Seems like he was working a good amount of OT but you would still have to have a good base pay to be in thE six figure range. Even at $30 an hour your still over 700 hrs OT.

It's not that hard. City and/or union. Double time on holidays, double and a half on weekends (or vise versa - been a long time since I dealt with union pay scales)... I used to work 60 hours a week (5x12), 20 hours of OT per week @ 52 weeks... 1040 hours of OT or 4020 total hours for the year, based on the standard 2080 for the 40 hour week people.

Lets say they have a fantastic union. And are extremely well compensated for what they do. Some parts of the Bronx and manhattan it's not unusual to pick up 10-15 ton in a day. Those trucks hurt. Around my parts where the houses are spread out, 6-10 ton is norm. And that's a rear loader and no automation.
