Hello TDR members,

This my first post on this forum, the minor problems or questions I had in de past I solved thanks to you guys on this forum.

But now i have a "problem" I never has seen on this forum and that is mine O/D off switch goes automaticly goes on while I drive.

Is this a big problem in the auto-trans and/or is this adjustable?

Thanks

Hans, how often is it doing it? Mine has done it a handful of times in 200k, I just wrote it off as a computer glitch. If your is doing it all the time my bet is the switch itself is bad. Just disconnect the switch and see if the problem goes away, that will show you if the switch is indeed the problem.

Computer glitch is the occasional cause. Mine did it as often as once a day three days in a row. But it's only done it twice in the last year lately...

Does it do it in conjunction with the operation of some other accessory?

I installed an after market torque converter controller and when I turned the wipers from off to high, it would cycle the controller and turn off my overdrive. It appeared to be transient voltage causing the controller to cycle when I turned on the wipers.

Could it be crossed wires or chaffed wires that are making contact and causing the OD to turn off? Maybe check the wire bundles going to the PCM.

Good luck

Steve

This is a Dodge 'feature', and has been discussed here... My truck has done it about once a year since new (last Sunday was the last time).

My truck was checked by a Dodge 5* when it first did this and they replaced about $500 worth of parts, in the transmission, on the engine, and the OD switch (all warranty). Made no difference.

My advice is to live with it unless it happens often (more than once a week).

thanks for the reply's on my post.

It happens once a month only in the summer when it's warm, and it happens on highway or in town.

hnonnekes: It should also be mentioned that if the transmission over heats it is programmed to kick out of overdrive.
