I was just looking at mine the other day. I think if you take out the cup holder and the front trim surrounding the dash, it will be a pretty easy swap. Just looks it plugs in.

By the way, if you want to get rid of that old switch, let me know. I have a project I have been contemplating.

Will need to take the 2 screws from both the cup holder and ash tray. Then it pulls right off (will need to tilt the steering wheel down also, unplug cig. lighter and power port).

Scott,

It is very easy. Take the dash trim piece off as the others have mentioned and then there are two screws that hold the panel in place with the OD button. Unplug the button and depress the "catch" that hold the button in place. That's it.

wow, this is gonna be easy... .

thanks guys.

i am getting my courage up for the return lines..... i have the hoses and clamps..... we'll see.....

well, i went to radio shack and bought a 12v light. it looked like the old one. but the light still doesn't work. it is 25ma. the od is lit up now when i pull the headlights on though. but the little slit at the top where the amber is is not.

comments?

thanks.

scott.

yep, there are 2. one was good, the other was bad. actually the one that lights up the letters "o/d off" was the one that was bad. the 2 are in series. ???

thanks. scott.

well, i went back out and the little amber lite for the od would not kick on when the button was pushed. i put 12v on it and both lights work fine. when the button is pushed, the transmission kicks out of od but the light will not go on?

When I bought my '96 used, the OD "off" light would not come on, as well. The switch did work, though. Like everything else that doesn't work, the first thing I did was take it apart to see what was in there.

I disassembled the switch and found that the lamp tested good. I put it all back together and it has worked for the last five years. Apparently, something was not making contact, but I can't say exactly what the problem was.
