What should I do to Trans with EDGE EZ

Going down the highway ~65mph... . everything is just dandy.

All of a sudden - transmission doesn't like O. D. and engine gets upset with transmission and suddenly revs to ~3k rpm.

Light on the O. D. switch is on and everything... almost as if someone had hit the O. D. switch and turned it off. Pulled into the "F*rd Flowerpoke lane" (breakdown lane) and cruised at 40mph for a few hundred feet..... clicked the switch to engageO. D. and everything is just dandy again.....

Anyone? Anyone?

I'm thinking that my transmission temp sensor got depressed and suddenly thought that my transmission temps were too low..... engine was fully warmed up... very odd.

Matt - see signature for specs.

my 94 has been doing it since it was new. might go 6 months before it happens or it might happen 2 times in a week. the first time is the scariest. you learn to feel it coming and hit the o. d. off button real quick. i notice it more in cold weather . i cover my transmission cooler which eliminates the cold weather 200 rpm surge in o. d. and it also stops the ghost from pressing the o. d. off at highway speeds. would be nice to know what causes this?

Sounds like the "overdrive ghost" to me. I can't say why it happeds, but the trans just shifts out of lockup and o/d at highway speed (60 -65 mph), and the tach registers higher to keep up that speed. Pushing the "o/d off" button to turn out the indicator light lets the trans shift back into o/d and then lockup again, and all is well. It's happened twice on my truck; once at about 68K and then at about 120K. Everything checks out fine; maybe there's a momentary short or change in voltage in the tps, pcm, or some sensor. Not a real problem, but a nuisance when it happens. It sure wakes you up, though, when you hear the engine pick up rpm!

Yes, It's the 'overdrive ghost'! Mine first appeared when the truck was 3 months old and reappears about once a year. For me it usually happens at about 55mph.

BTW: Dodge did warranty work on this problem, including replacing a switch inside the transmission, the key switch, overdrive switch and a few other things. None of this helped, except the gear select lever has never worked quite right ever since. Wish they had left it alone!
