Yeah I got to thinkin' and I am sure there is many a Mopar fan out there that can answer this one. We have Three Generations of rams that have the Cummins.

However How many Generations of the Dodge Pickup are there exactly? Basicly from Then ... . til now.

Hmm... . Interesting question! I tried doing a search to come up with one of those year- by- year posters of specific models (like the Covette one or Mustang... etc... ) But, couldn't find one. Lot's of info!! I want to keep searching, but my lunch hour (and a half) is over.

Did find some interesting links though:

This one would probably be the definitive link to count generations: (scroll down at the bottom of each link to view the different "segments" (generations?)

there have been at least 5 generations since 1950, the early power wagons, then the 60's models - 71, 72 showed a design that lasted till 1980. in 1981 came the design that lasted till 93, then the style was changed in 94 lasted through 01 for gassers 02 for diesels, then came the 02-03 changes, i har they have redseigned the trucks again for next year too.

Wow, Thanks, I came home thinking "what am I going to do tonight"?

Your links just helped cure that problem! :D

that sno commander in the ad was a 1977, i had one much like it it was a 78 but it was a military pickup, the 77 and 78's were the only years with the park lights next to the headlights like that. the 77's were mostly clear, the 78's were mostly amber. I loved my old 78, had to get rid of it when i got the 02, :{ my brother has it now, lol. Things were built like a tank.

72 - 80 was 1 body style, 81 - 93 was another different style subtly changed but different all the same. check out a broadside shot of a 78 versus an 88 for example. the hoods were changed to the 80's style in 79, up until then they had the "birdbath" hood, held water like a mofo, but looked the best out of all the hoods dodge used, had as crap to find as a repro part, my old 78 had one, i loved the way that hood looked. The body was more rounded with only 1 body line on the lower portion of the body on the 70's models, where the 80's and early 90's had 2 distinct body lines.

I agree the birdbath hood is a pain always dumps water right on the dist. (A-mtr) at the most inoppertune times, try to find a decent hood for the 74-77 med duty, now thats hard.

Fun topic.

Whenever my son refers to a 1st gen or 2nd or 3rd and it's a gasser, I'll say "no it wasn't". Well, he used to do that anyway, not anymore though.

It's funny that we aren't the only one who thought about this, and tried to figure it out.
