Competition Pulling Without Filter On

Would anyone happen to know where If at all you could purchase a set of the tooling required to O-ring a head and or block. I wouldn't mind trying it for myself it can't be much different than grooving a block in a semi engine for cylinder liners and being a diesel mechanic I would consider undertaking the work. I just can't seem to get anywhere searching for the tolls to do the job. Plus i'm all the way on the east side of PA and don't feel like paying an arm and a leg for shipping a cylinder head plus buddies of mine would also do the job if they didn't have to wait and ship the heads etc. and down their trucks for awhile any help is greatly appreciated.

Tools

BHJ machine in California makes and sells complete O-Ring tool kit. I am searching around for a # if I find it I will post.

I would recommend sending it to some one reputable. The BHJ tool in the hands of a good machinist is a great tool, but no where near as good as doing it in a mill. The wire protrusion is critical and keeping tolerance even for an experienced user of the BHJ tool is at best not able to keep with in a . 001 needed to make the set up work. I have seen wire protrusion from some shops vary as much at . 002 to . 003 this is totally unacceptable.

Also there is a art to making the wire seem endless, and this is a critical point , I have seen a major shop have a problem with that , but now their quality control has taken care of the problem. Several people posting on this thread already have a good reputation at to doing this job right. In a nut shell, don’t try and save a buck here , by doing it your self .

:( Yeah I've recorded gaps in these sealing wires that recorded . 016"- . 017"- and . 023" gaps from a reputable shop, and I thought I was getting quality work from a VERY reputable shop, that was accepting my quality greenbacks... .

And I was told that the endless theory is more for astetics:rolleyes:

Never heard of a partial O-ring job, Still don't understand that if there is a gap in the o-ring then what wire is pressing on the firering of the gasket at the gaps? ? Not only that but the one that was . 023" one side of the wire had the angled cut the other was straight. My opinion it was hackery at it's finest.

Should I be happy about paying for a O-ring job meant to seal my cylinders completely with gaps in the seal? ... ... ... ... ...

Now I'll be doing it over the RIGHT way... ... ... . :( out of my own pocket no less.....

i could see a few headaches in your future if you try it yourself, course i no a few that have dfone it and have had no probs. it just depends on how precise you are. ADT is in the eastern part of WV, he has done countless Orings jobs and even built my motor and fire ringed it. Doug is a hell of a guy and wont treat your wrong. I live around hagerstown, md and go to ADT for everything major. best of luck.
