What is the advantage of o-ringing the head? Do you still need to use headgaskets?

Is it an advantage even with mildly bombed rigs?

Yes a head gasket is still used,I dropped my head off today for o-rings hopefully it will keep the gasked from blowing again. Three are other ,better methods c-ring and fire-rings or having a oring in the block and a receiving groove in the head. How much money do we have to spend. I hope the oring holds. $240 for head check /deck/ re seat valves, head bolts ane manifold gaskets $150 orings $120 and the rest of the gaskets were cheap thanks to a good friend with spares. Tim

There is really no benefit for the average 1st Gen truck unless you are running a P-pump conversion and very high boost pressures... .

O-Ringing the head helps when running high boost pressures...

Basically the o-ring bites into and seals the fire ring on the head gasket so it holds at high levels of boost like on the high HP trucks.

Once o-ringed a head gasket is installed and then the head is torqued down.
