I have a 98 buick regal gs. I ran a dtc and put I on my diagnostic computer and I need to replace my up stream o2 sensor. What I need to know are several things.

1. Are all o2 sensor the same size as for sockets which I need to buy.

2. How hard is it to replace?

3. What is the best penetrating oil to use?

4. Can you heat to take them out?

This is my first time to replace one and I am just trying to find out what I am getting into.

Thanks for any reply

they do use a special socket I think it's a one size fits all . Not sure on the removal but be sure you buy genuine AC/Delco for it they are calibrated better than the aftermarket ones.

2. There are usually 2 sensors for 4 and 6 cylinder engines, bank 1 and bank 2

many cars also have pre and post sensors. Usually the pre, are fuel/air ratio heater sensors and the post are the O2 sensors. Look on the exhaust manifold and you should see them, then follw pipe down and see if you find two more.

3. no penetrating oil needed as the new ones will probably have a red locktite on the threads

4. Change them after bringing the car up to operating temp. Wear gloves cause everything down there is hot.

1. My O2 sensor socket is 7/8 and has worked on all the sensors that I've had to change so far, even metric, it will have a slot down the side for the wires.

Thanks for the reply I borrowed a socket from a engine shop. This one is just off the exhaust manifold before the cat. I am going to have to disconnect the dog bones on top of the engine and rotate the engine forward to get access to it. At the engine shop he has a book on the car and it say to replace it when the temperature of the manifold is above 120 degs. The book say to use WD40 if necessary. I'm going to replace it this weekend. Thanks for the reply.
