I've seen other "code Scan" Tools offered in magazines. . I think I've even seen them for sale at Pep Boys and ACME.

My question is . .
Has anyone tried these... I've seen Ford Readers. . and cant remember if I've seen crysler tools.

Would these Bargain tools be able to RESET codes after they have been read??

I'm gonna try to make it to a store today. .

If anyone has tried these units pass along the specifics.

Just curious - does Pep Boys carry the KM9615 listed on the website? If so, did you notice the price? I like the idea of real-time information being available.

I have an Auto X-Ray EZ-Link OBD II scanner and it will not read any info from the PCM in a Dodge diesel except trouble codes. It will also reset the DTC's. The EZ-Link is easy to upgrade but the mfg says the development of new software is based on demand and they weren't sure if they would have an upgrade for the diesel or not. Anyone know for sure if another make of scanner can read the various sensor info (other than the DRB)?

Larry--have you used the scan tool yet? If so, does it do as claimed? Does it do what you want? How's about the "stealth" identification? Need a report my man! Ron

I'm still investigating prior to purchase. .

I've heard that the regular OBDII scanners when used on our cummins won't be able to read the Real Time info from the Cummins ECM. .
it will only read the codes and reset them as found...

This is narrowing the field a bit for me to my ORIGINAL FIND. .

The higher price for some of the other units is created by functions that won't work on our engines anyway so why pay 300. 00 for them??

I my be talking myself into the one pictured above... but as a dollar for useage item . . I can't seem to find a better deal.

I'll keep you all informed.

Well... I bought it... .

The one pictured above...
after looking to see the prices of other units, and that they cant do "real Time" on the Cummins ECM. . I decided to for the Low Cost Option. .

First Opinion... NICE UNIT!!!

Found it "on the shelf" at the local Auto Zone.

No need to order through Pep Boys. .

149. 75... is what I would call an GREAT PRICE!!!. .

To use it couldn't be any simpler.

Plug the unit in the OBD connector under the driver's dash. . (it gets its power from the same plug as well... No Batteries. . WoooHooo)

Turn the ignition key to "On" or "run"

Press the "Read Codes" button on the scanner

Within 10 seconds it reports back with all the trouble codes found. .

On my truck it came back with "0". . as there were no codes to begin with. . (no check engine light)

Does anyone know of an easy way to fire off a code that I can use to test this things "Erase" function...

Preferrably an Easy one... as this is just a test. .

If you've got an idea. . fire off an e-mail to me. . I'll post the results. .

AND

If you live local to me here in East Windsor, CT. . and want to get your codes checked... and cleared... let me know...

For a cup of coffee. . or a beer. . I'd love to meet with some local BOMBERS and chew the fat for a few... . (Offer only good to TDR Members... see that 35. 00 subscription pays off again in spades!!)

Larry, I am eagerly awaiting further results. There has not been much response on this thread, but believe me, there is a lot of interest out there. Thanks and have fun with the research.

I looked for the TPS connector... but could not find it...

the easiest connector for me to get to would be the coolant temp sensor. .

would removal of this kick a code???
Check engine light???

I would like to try an easy one... and not something that might make the engine quit.

thanks for the info...

Pull the fuel pump relay in the power Dist. box under the hood. Cummins has a box and cable assy. used with a lap top computer that will read all 3 computers and gives you all of the trouble shooting info, Only problem it sells for $1300. 00

Pull the relay while running. .

Pull the relay then try to start???

Being that this is an electronic pump. . won't pulling the relay kill the engine???

I just want to get things straight and not do any damage... after all I'm just testing the code reader's reset function. .

keep the info coming... I'm working up the nerve as we speak. .

Larry

I like the Snap On MT2500. #ad
You can pull the maps sensor connector it will give a Engine fault code because there is no sensing pulse from the map sensor cuircuit. If the code reader does not reset the fault it will reset itself after 10 engine restarts when reconnected. The OBDII is the new industry standard connection each manufacturesr used to have a different plug and it was big money time for the tool vendors. #ad

great find!!

i have one question... . what does this do that the Palm III software from cummins won't do and vice versa. has anyone tried the palm software? the software was over $200, right? did it even read trouble codes?

thanks in advance... .

To be honest... the software that your talking about...
as far as I can tell NEVER MADE IT TO END USERS!!!

I agree... . IF the software can RESET codes than it would be the same. . (even better)

I was looking for that software and cable to be offered . . and the last I saw on it was a survey in the TDR from cummins asking if ISB owners would like to get the software . . AT 950. 00$$$$$$

I'm sorry NO WAY AT THAT COST!!!!

fellow members ... If I'm wrong on this. . correct me... . (I still have my reciept for the code reader and a 90 day return policy)

Larry,

I bought his "Triple Combo" which covers GM Ford, Chrysler, Japanese and European cars.
It was aobut $162 but I bought the kit form that you have to put together yourself and he knocks $12 off. It works on my Wifes' BMW and friends F-150 gasser. Haven't got a new enough GM to try it on GM yet.
