Has anyone tried software from this site: http://www.obd-2.com/#dat
I downloaded the sample version and if it works with our (24V) trucks, I WILL be running out to find a cheap-o laptop.

Got a reply from the developer. He says it will work, software and hardware cost is $122, and he said to order the ISO version for 24V trucks. Will check it out and let everyone know.

I'll be VERY interested in your results. If it works I'll be talking to the other GLTDR members about adding one to our tool crib - I can find a laptop to donate.

Sounds good, will you have a copy of it by Jan 14th for the Rocky Mountain Meeting? If not me and Kevin will order one as well. We got laptops #ad
Be interesting to see just how much info we can get. Hell me and Kevin will prolly order one anyhow hehe.

Kat - Hell... I say let's do it. If it'll work on our trucks... . then it's worth it. If the hardware and the software is only $122. . let's see if we can order and additional piece of hardware.

Cryppie - Before you order it. . shoot me and e-mail. Let's talk about it... I have some suggestions.

Hey guys, hate to sound like a dummy but what is the software used for? 96 std cab full bed auto 3. 50 gears. Auto Wurks is in the process of fully bombing my truck now maybe as I type.

Bertyz - If you have a moment go check out this website

<font color=blue>http://www.obd-2.com

<font color=black>This software is supposed to just install on any ole laptop and you can check out the vehicle diagnostics. Even erase trouble codes. The developer says that this software will work on 96 and up vehicles.

Please... go check out the website and give us feedback on what you think. I sure do know that Katdiesel and I are about ready to purchase one... hell with a 30 day money back guarantee, where can you go wrong?

So... Who's going to spring for it? I'll bring laptop(s) to the Jan 14th meeting if required. We also have a presentation projector so all at the meeting can see.

Sean... I have 2 e-mails into the developer of this software... waiting to hear back. But Kat and I are most likely going to purchase it and install it on my laptop. So we may have it by the 14th.

Kev

Marco... can you help me out and be a little bit more specific? How complicated is this software? Have you found anything that it does not detect? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

Kev

Let me start by apologizing to K_Arts, when I went into work this AM I ordered the kit. I should have it by the end of the week. I also procured an old laptop as my mule for the software, so as soon as it gets here I'll be testing it out and will submit an update. For bertzy, the developer did state that it will only work on the 24V engines, sorry. And for all those in the Denver metro area, I will make every attempt (unless the wife says no) to make the the Jan 14th meeting and we can play with this. Have fun!

Cryppie - No need for an apologie... . Thanks though it is much appreciated.

Second... when you get a moment... can you send me an e-mail and let me know how much you paid for it? This developer has changed his story with me. . thought I would fill you in to make sure you get the right kit.

Thanks

Kevin Arts

I purchased this software last summer for my truck (see sig line below) and could not get it to work. I have a very good laptop so that's not the problem and the rest of the setup is simple. I contacted the developer and he had no suggestions so I got my refund and sent back the cable. I'll be interested to hear if you guys get it to work. If it will I think it's a worthwhile product.

Tis' the season - turkeys, trees, and toys !!!
However, I'm confident there are a lot of eyes watching this thread. We're all familiar with computers, used laptops are everywhere, and we want to know what's going on inside our trucks.
Please update us, and Thank You. #ad

Has anyone tried one of the OBD scanners? Do they have the same functionality as this software? Cause I know that the OBD II software can erase trouble codes... what about the scanner?

Thanks

Kev

Got the hardware kit today, software is available online. Got the software loaded up into an old ThinkPad 486DX33 notebook, plugged it in and low and behold, we've got OBDII communications! The software GUI (graphical user interface) is pretty easy to figure out, and the only area for research I see is to find out what the DC fault codes are. (Most are in the service manual). Does anyone have the Powertrain service manual? Wondering if it has all the DC specific codes in it. I'll be playing with this until I figure it all out and try to sum up what I've learned. From what I see, this is much better than a auto-parts store scan tool, and costs less too! (assuming you already have or can get a cheap notebook) Livin' in a land of 1's and 0's now!

I still plan on showing up with a Snap On scanner at the next meeting. Maybe we can see if the computer software stuff shows everything that the Snap On does.
