I just recently used my high idle twice to let the truck run a lil bit while I scraped the windows. Now suddenly I get a P-0500 code.

I am almost positive its related, was just wondering if anyone else has had the same occurance? I know Shleby Griggs was saying something bout it a while back.

So if ya have high idle software or a device and have used it recently, check your truck for the P-0500 code and reply here.

Its not a big deal, just informational purposes.

Thanks

p0500

the p0500 code according to the manual is no vehical speed sensor signal. and yes kat, i have thrown it a couple of times, and it was always after using the high idler for several minutes. i have one of the popular electronic brands several members have.

Eric,

Just saw this post. Yes, I had posted the same question, in fact I had a poll and thread on this. I had this happen and was trying to determine a correlation between the reflash and the codes. My codes had cleared out both in the odometer and on the dealers scan tool prior to my dealer visit. They told me the P0500 is an invalid code, and unless the MIL was on to not bother them. I just went out and checked and I am showing a P0500 again. I think the two must be related, but have not determined if there is a real problem or anything that needs to be fixed. I have had the high idle activate about 3 times in the past couple of weeks.

I am going to the dealer tomorrow morning (1-4-02), because the High Idle reflash does not work on my truck. I have not had the P-0500 code set that I am aware of, but I will ask about it while I am there. I will try to post the responce here tomorrow after I get back. I will also post a message to the BIG high idle reflash thread as to any new information I can find out.

Did you guys calibrate the Hi Idler to 1550rpm max like instructed? (I think that is the RPM Gordon indicated). Since this device doesn't do Idle Validation you cannot rev it up too high or it will cause the ECM to freak and set a code. . . it is seeing the higher RPMs but the I. V. switch is saying no one's touching the pedal, that is what trips out the ECM if you rev past 1550.

Yep its 1550 rpm, yes it was calibrated when I installed it. I normally set mine at 1400rpm when I let it idle. I'm not concerned about it, this was just an informational type inquiry.

It was jsut "odd" that after using it twice, I suddenly got that code.

I never had any codes until I had the TSB for the high idle done. Since then I have had the P-0500 and another P-16?? (I will fill in the last number later. ) codes set a couple of times. And to date the high idle has not worked.

At the dealer this morning they cleared the codes and told me that the two codes were related but that they should not have an effect on the high idle reflash. (They asked if I spun the wheels a lot, or spun one wheel that I could remember. )

If the high idle is from an under-hood add on RPM's over 1500 will set of any of a number of codes, as the ECM tries to figure out what is going on. If you use the "stick" method for the higher RPM's it should not set any codes because the throtle position sensor is giving correct information.

My truck is stock, with no re-flashes, etc. I get the 0500 code over and over. The dealer told me it means nothing, and that since my speedometer works, the rear wheel speed sensor must be working also.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't end up being a problem.

I just checked and I have the same P-0500 code and like rmknizner, my truck is bone stock except for gauges. I'm just hoping that it is nothing to worry about
