From reading posts on this site, as well as my own experience, I agree that it is better to run with OD off all of the time unless/untill you are going down the road at at least 55 or better. So, I always punch OD off when I first start up the truck

Has anyone ever looked into how one might make the truck to DEFAULT to OD off, so you dont have to punch it ? It seems to me that would make more sense. I understand why Dodge would have it set up the way it is because they can say the ecomomy is better. But drivability would be better the other way in my humble opinion. .

Still never understood.

Why we run around with OD off. I have heard everything from It stops you from lugging and keeps you at a good RPM at 45 to 'it builds heat faster' and 'it takes valuable line pressure to compress a spring' What is the advantage?. Why have I been running around with o/d off till 55 for years now?

The reason is because the Cummins makes so much torque at such low RPM's. You would prematurely wear your auto out if you drive with the rpm's below 1600.

Chipstien,

Thanks for the the answer, anyone who drives my truck always asks why I push the o/d button around town, it will be nice to have a reason to back it up.

It was easy.......

Just had a relay activate the push button wire. Basically grounding one side of the switch is all it takes. The wire for relay activation with the key came from the clutch kill switch. As we have autos there's no switch just a jumper. Tie into that wire and you have a signal with key turned to start.
