The other day i was walking down to the gym, and heard the ever sweet clatter of a 24v cummins. This took my mind to how much I missed being around dodges. I finally left daydream world and realized that i had unconsciously redirected my path (yes out of the way) and was on a course that placed me about 4 feet from the exhaust pipe. Realizing it was out of my way, but not having the will power to change direction, i soon found myself enjoying the smell and sound of a ctd. Yes, my prison-like existence here has limited my exposure to ctd's in the past year, but i didn't realize it had effected me to that extent.

So the question, am i odd for doing this, or could it be explained by the dieslessness syndrome, meaning that it's a perfectly natural reaction for a dieselhead?

Thanks for the help

Forrest

Forrest, it's definitely natural, and you should not fight it. I do the same damn thing (only am drawn more to the 12 valves) and I drive my truck almost daily.

It's also perfectly normal to walk out of a store or away from a conversation to do same...

Similarly, it is intolerable to be passed by any Ford or Chevy (or Porsche), under any circumstances. :D

I wasn't a truck driver (other'n my Army time) before I got my CTD, but now I can tell a Brand X diesel by ear. My truck has paid for itself over and over again, and I do believe I'll be a truck driver until I die.

I completely understand. One neighbor has an old 7. 3 Ford and the rest have Dodges. One of them is a '96 straight piped and it sounds pretty sweet. Not gonna trade in the 3rd gen though :)

Good! Glad to know that i'm not weird... regradless of what my frineds say. Next time they say I'm weird, I'll just tell them that ya'll said it was ok, and even natural. :-laf

That sweet sound is unmistakeable. Last winter, while eating at a restaurant, I heard a Cummins and looked out the window only to see a '90ish Suburban driving by. I'm still keeping my eyes out for this conversion because I know it's got a Cummins in it.

It's normal... :-laf I had a dream the other night about my old 99 ISB. I sure miss the clatter. These 3rd Gen's just aren't the same. If it weren't for the 53 Block, I would still have the old girl :(
