Tonight i was driving my 94 4dr. conversion truck, when i heard a slight noise from the engine compartment then lost oil pressure and brakes were weak. Engine still sounded fine, but i shut it down as fast as i could. I left it parked until i get time to tow it home. Seems to me like something broke in the gear cover, like the oil pump wasnt getting driven. I may be mistaken but doesnt the vacuum for the brakes somehow come from the power steering pump? If so, it must not be getting driven anymore either. Anyone seen this before?

I agree with John, if you have not fixed the KDP, it will generaly take out the timing cover but it could also take out your gears, the oil pump is driven off of the crank shaft but the dowel pin should follow the rotation of the cam gear down to the crank gear where it will usually bust the timing cover, if not it should roll on down to where the crank and the cam gears mesh and destroy the teeth. I hope this is not the case, as this would be very costly. If it is,I hope the best to you in getting it fixed.

At first i thought it could be the kdp, but the way i had always heard was the way you both explained was it either went between the gears and the case which would bust the side of the case, or would just go straight to the bottom of the case with no harm done or if it did go between two gears it would destroy the engine. I always thought it would bend valves etc... . which in my case did not happen or doesnt seem that way. The engine sounds fine still and doesnt seem to run any different at all. I guess the only way to find out is start pulling the front cover. :{ I hope just the oil pump shot craps, but i'm afraid you guys are probably right.

Keep us posted. Hope it turns out to be not so serious. Since your engine continued to run, that is encouraging. It means the cam and its gear must be intact and driving the injection pump and the crank shaft gear must be intact to be driving the cam. Oil pressure drop could mean busted teeth on the oil pump gears or just a real bad oil leak. Did you notice if there was puddle of oil? The weak brakes could be due to loss of vacuum. The vacuum pump gear is driven off the cam gear. Seems unlikely that teeth would be torn off the oil pump and the vacuum pump only. Whatever it is, though, it'll be obvious when you open up the gear housing.

It seemed strange to me. I checked the oil. It was good, and amazingly no leaks out of the ordinary. I didnt think the kdp would take out the oil and vacuum only. Wierd. Yeah, i'll find out soon enough. I am out of trucks at the moment. I had my 2wheeler apart with clutch trouble so i have to put back together first then i'll tear into the dually. I'll keep you posted as soon as i find out.
