Hello all again... Was just curious about something. If someone had brand Y spray-in liner and hated it for whatever reason, and wanted brand X liner... can the old one be removed, sanded, chemically removed, etc? thanks in advance... Michael

I would think that would take alot of elbow grease and time. You could probably use a grinder with some kind of wire brush attachment. Man, that will take forever. Good luck.

Hey Michael, where you been lately?

That's the downside of spray in liners, they are pretty permenant like a tattoo. I'm sure that if you really wanted it removed you could, but it would be pretty painful.

Is that a brand y you have, or brand R?:-laf

Go and talk with the original mafg and ask them there procedured for removal, some liners can be removed with a sand blaster but here is the neet thing they use baking soda insted of sand and from what i hear the baking soda will remove the liner without touching the paint on the bed.

good luck and be extra shure!!!!!

If you hated the frist liner, the second guy could probably just sand the first liner and spray over it. the same as if he were prepping the truck if it had no liner.

At least that's what I was told if the liner ever needed to be repaired.

I believer the paint is history when they prep for spraying in the bed liner.

spray in

i don't know if they have come out with any better ways but when i was having a line x put in a truck a few years ago the owner of the shop had bought a used Chevy with a different brand liner in it and his workers were using an air chisel to remove it and progress was well... not fast at the least! very loud also. you can spray over it but it would be very thick and put another 40ish pounds in the truck..... good luck

Thanks for all the replies... as always this site and its peeps are great!! Hey back to you Mr. Stubbs!! been busy with holidays, and all, I actually have an Inyati liner which I'm happy with, but was just thinking one day if these things were at all removeable... I know too much free time... mind wanders... well, Happy Holidays to all!! thanks again... Michael

I believe they can remove them with heat and scraping. That's what the Body shop accross the street does to repair body panels.

Yes, it can be removed!

You wouldn't want to do it though! You can use an air chisel as described above but it is a PITA! I have done it, we removed the bed rails and tailgate lip with the air chisel, sanded the rest, and re-sprayed everything. Turned out pretty good!
