Odd tick-tick-tick

I noticed the other day when pulling my trailer that when I put my foot in it, I could hear a fast ticking noise from the engine. Only when I mashed it. Tried it again without the trailer and it did the same thing, but only under full or almost full throttle. It doesn't seem like the ticking gets faster with higher RPM's, though it's hard to tell since I have the 2006 dead tach syndrome. Any thoughts on the ticking? I did a search but came up with threads that don't match the conditions I have. Most are a tick that starts and then goes away at higher RPM's.

Edit: Truck is a 2006 with about 102,000.

First thing to do is check the blue clamp on your #4 fuel injeciton line, then all of the other lines as well.

Checked the clamps. I actually had to replace the #4 line because of a split. All the clamps appeared to be tight.

Changed oil, new fuel and air filters, still ticking. Any more thoughts?

Have you ever checked the valve lash?

I haven't checked the valves but that could certainly be it. How hard is it to check on the 06's? I did the valves on my 97 but I could reach the whole engine!

I doubt you would here valve noise only under a load. To start I would dump 2 quarts of CRC fuel therapy in the tank and see if it changes after some miles

They are about the same only you do have to reach a little farther back and you want to be, in my opinion, precise in setting them. Do as Bob4x4 says first.

Going to try and find some CRC today. I had some Power Service and dumped that in but no help.

Still have the ticking. From a stop under full throttle, it doesn't do it until it drops into 3rd. It does it when I romp on it when rolling and it downshifts. Could it be the transmission or some line/solenoid/who-knows-what that goes to the transmission? In the cab it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side (turbo? exhaust brake?). Starting to worry me.

I had a tick on mine and I never could narrow it down to any rpm or load, it did sound like it was coming from the turbo area. I found a exhaust leak while looking for a loose something. I finally decided to put a BD two piece manifold on it and found a loose bracket under the exhaust manifold while removing the stock manifold. I think ithe bracket holds a hose going to the heater core??? but it attaches to one of the manifold bolts. The manifold bolt has threads on the top and the bracket goes on and then a nut secures it. Mine was missing the nut altogether. So I could have got away with changing a gasket and putting a new nut on it. I am not looking at the truck and all of this is from memory, which is not all that great at times. My truck is a 05 auto if that makes any difference.

Seems like it. I haven't been able to get it to make the tick in fourth because it kicks down.
