Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) When to do timing

Odd that this is happening as of late or I am just noticing it now for some reason. When maintaining a constant RPM and vehicle speed level (I. E seccond gear converter manualy locked @ 2300 RPM) the might cummins sounds like ..... well it sounds allmost like a commonrail coming off pilot injection. Running smooth humm then its allmost like ya tossed in a hand full of nickles.

To Me it sounds like a radical timing change without any surge or decline in performance. ... . . is it just the ECM making a change to the fueling map as the rpm's have leveled off with a light pedal?

She still is running great by the way after that whole electrical mishap.

Mine does something similar with the Comp box. When it's cold (engine) with a moderate pedal the truck goes stealth mode (common rail), it's pulling like normal or better when it does this. A little more pedal or a little less and the rattle comes back. Or just a constant pedal and the noise wil come back on its own after she has stabilized speed a little. BTW, it's done this for like ever since the comp was installed.

Mine will do it when it's cold. Slight acceleration will get the funny rattling bark out of the pump. I try to take it easy until it warms up on those cold days.
