Hello,

For the '90 D250 I'm getting, the odometer is not currently working. I have read a few posts saying its an expensive fix at the dealer ($350). Is this correct? As an alternative, I am considiering installing an hour meter to keep track of fluid services, etc.

Does anyone have any good/bad experience with odometer repair and/or hour meter installation (i. e. where is a good place to wire the hour meter to)?

Thanks,

Brian

I would wire the hour meter into the same circuit that powers the soloniod valve on the injection pump. That way the meter isn't runnning unless the engine is.

Now on the speedo what has ben tested to date on it?

Brian,

It could just have a bad sending unit about $60 at the dealer and comes with a new water tight plug, to check it pull it out and hook a cordless drill to the end of it, turn on the ignition and have someone run th drill if it's good the speedo will work if no reading or erratic change the sensor... ... ... ... Rick

The speedometer works Okay, but the odometer doesn't. Are the 90's electronic too?

For the hour meter, I too thought of the IP solenoid. However, I am cautious that if something in the wiring modification introduced reliability problems, I may wish I'd never touched it. Is there a best second place to install the hour meter?

Coming from a MB diesel background, I've noticed a few similiarities in the IP's. What CTD owners call the "smoke screw", MB owners call the "ALDA" (altitude compensator). Our IP shutoff is vacuum controlled (there is a vacuum switch on the end of the ignition switch). We also have a red "STOP" handle on the IP to cutoff the engine.

Thanks,

Brian

An hour meter uses so little power. I would take a guess and say around 300 milampers that I wouldn't even worry about it being hooked in with the fuel soloniod. Both are very low power usage items. But if your bothered with the thought of it being hooked up there. Then use the radio fuse. The only thing with this is. If you set with the key in accy position. The hour meter will be running.

On your speedo. I would just keep an eye out around the junkyards. Sooner or late there will be a truck in the correct year model show up with a good speedo in it.

An update: I wired an hour meter to the fuel pump on the IP. So far so good.

For used odmeters, a, I correct to think I need to find one for a 3/4 ton diesel with 3 spd and 3. 07 and that no others will work?

Thanks,

Brian

I have not look at a mitchel interchange manual to find out for sure. But the speedo should be the same between a gasser and diesel. I do not think Dodge had two different speedo's for these trucks.

The gear ratio will not make a diffence on the speedo. The gear or sending unit in the trans tail housing tellsthe speedo or computer what to show on the gage. I do not know if you truck is computer or cable based on the speedo.
