I hope one of you guys and gals can give me a little imformation. I have a 99 2500 4x4 with four wheel abs and have put 33" tires on it and want to know how I can get the odometer and speedometer to read correctly? Is it like the Chevy's and you have to change gears in the odometer is it all electronic? I would really appriciate some help on this one because I can't figure my fuel mileage and I know my truck has more than 57,000 miles.

Thanks in advance

Big D-

I haven't checked myself, but I recall the dealer can only reprogram the speedo/odometer for factory option tire sizes- that is, up tp a 265-75R-16 (approx 31. 8"-32. 0").

Check out http://www.superlift.com/new.htm (near bottom of page) for their Truspeed correction device.

I can't find anywhere on that web page were I can buy on of those true-speed boxes. If any body has one or knows were I can get one please let me know. I'm going to try a couple of local shops around here first but I'm pretty sure no one will have it.

Thanks

Big D

I believe the problem is still with the 4 wheel ABS. I have 255/85's and would love to correct the odometer. As of the last time I checked, there was nothing that would correct the speedometer/odometer and still provide proper 4 wheel ABS.

Rickson Tire Has Them

Rickson Tire has them. I bought one from them when they first came out and it works perfectly. I have 19. 5x285 tires on a 2001 4X4 3500 and speed/milage was off by a little over 10%. Now, according to Washington state mile markers, I'm within 1/10th of a mile in 150 miles. I'd say that was real good. ;)

Bruce-

Do you have 4 wheel ABS? Rickson told me that they don't recommend using their box (Abbot?) with 4 wheel ABS. They said it works fine otherwise. I believe that the ABS sensor and the speedometer run off the same sensor on the rear differential. The front wheels have a sensor on each wheel. They told me that with 4 wheel ABS you need 2 boxes. One for the rear and one for the front. This works in theory but they have had problems trying to get it to work so they told me they recommend not trying it. This may have been about a year ago so if something has changed I would like to know.

Dave, it's not the Abbott. Give them a call, something has changed and yes 2001 3500's come with 4 wheel ABS. I was refering to the Superlift TrueSpeed unit.

I put BFG 285/75/16 on my 2500. My clock was running 10% out of wack to the plus. I bought a Suuperlift corrector form Rickson, and it works fine. I tuned mine in with a GPS.

Rickson do have the Superlift box and it does work. But it costs a lot more than the Abbott.

The Abbott can be made to properly correct 4WAL. It just requires soldering in a resistor. (Technically, the Abbott's input needs a pull-up resistor; once installed, the Abbott box will correct the signal between the CAB and the PCM. ) See http://home.adelphia.net/~npmrphy/abbott-mod.pdf

for a drawing.

Not sure what the price difference is. Rickson's price for the Abbott used to be around $130, I think, a couple years ago.

The Abbott can handle any tire size, by changing the dip switches. One need only compute the %age correction needed and set the DIP switches accordingly. No, the Abbott box does not have a nice switch to allow switching betwixt two sizes.

I have 4 wheel abs with 315's and the superlift tru-speed box. it works well. I used my gps to calibrate it. I paid $185 from 4 wheel parts.
