I recently bought a 2001 Dodge 3500 4x4 and it had showing 110,000 miles from a Texas Truck Trader magazine add, I was not told it was wrecked and it was advertised as having a new inspection sticker and plates. Anyway, I drove it off the used diesel truck "specialists" lot and it broke down on the way home to my house. I have just spent $3000 on emerg brake cables and brake housings thast were broken and not repaired since the wreck and yada yada, it also required a track bar and all new ball joints rotors etc etc, as we speak is it down in Corpus Chrisiti Texas getting a new ring and pinion and housing installed, it was wallowed out in the bore where the bearings go. If this was not so funny the lift pump went out on the way down there from my ranch and i am now waiting until the rear is done to see if the injection pump is out as it still acting funny driving. I got pulled over by the Texas DPS and they showed me the expired inspection sticker, i had never noticed that it was not new as required in there published add in the Truck Trader and actually by law since this truck was in a major collision, i still have not received the title and new plates so far, I bought this truck from the add online and the Truck trader and thought this was a good low milage truck for its age. Now i am trying to determeine how to take the truck to the dealer for them to check the vin and actually put the truck on there computer system and see where it was sold servived and how many miles were on the truck when it had any reapair work done on it before i got it. One of my questions is this, can the $100 dealer ck of the vin thru there pc print out a service record of this truck or is it only a screen showing the service manager its history?? Also this truck would not run thru carfaxs vin look up when i tried it and i am still tryin to get those records to see what they show, 2nd question is this, where else can i get and how do i get a complete vin title search history of this truck so i can see if it has been retitled or washed or declared a rebuilders or what ever that is called. I wish i had found this site and joined it before i bought this lemon, have I left any other checks i could preform to figure out if this truck has had a re title or odementer roll back, after looking at it 3 mechanics have told me they bleieve it was a hot shot truck with very high mileage and was a rebuilder not the low mile inspected truck i was led to beleive. I still would like somebody to help me learn how to turn on the key and see what error codes show up on the dash, this was my 1th 24 valve and i am wanting to know how to ck a truck on a used truck lot so this will never happen again. Thanks in advance for any comments and suggestions on how to ck the actual milage, i stillthink they might have a way to disconnect the odometer or run it back or replace it with one from another wrecked truck. Anybody ever run into something like this with a used truck buy off the web or truck trader in Texas, what did you do??
